Craig FotheringhamPermel Signage & EngravingBurnabyBC
Craig earned his stripes in the engraving and printing industry the hard way back when manual typesetting, artwork preparation and printing plates were the order of the day. Hardworking and smart, he quickly developed a reputation for getting the tough jobs done and attracted a loyal client following. The former owner of Permel spotted him as a ‘success story waiting to happen’ and invited Craig, and his loyal client following, to join Permel in 1993. The two struck a deal and Craig took over Permel in 1996 when the owner retired.
Craig has been at the helm of Permel for over 17 years and has revolutionized the systems and processes insisting on adopting the latest technologies to ensure top quality and cost efficiencies. His organizational skills, eye for detail and commitment to satisfying every customer have lead Permel to becoming a successful thriving business.
When Craig is away from the business he is kept busy with his family including three dogs. He plays soccer, and his idea of the ultimate vacation is visiting his family’s vacation home near Williams Lake where he loves to fly fish.
Dan OliverPermel Signage & Engraving
When Dan joined Permel in 1996 he stepped into a new career after 19 years in the retail food industry. He was ready for a change, and he was delighted to be working side by side his school buddy, Craig. Under Craig’s tutelage, Dan quickly became the engraving and routering expert at Permel, a position he holds with pride today.
What Dan likes most about his role at Permel is that it’s detail oriented and requires exacting precision. Every day brings a new challenge that tests his technical and mechanical skills, not to mention keeps him on the move. Sometimes there’s pressure and tight deadlines, but at the end of the day he loves producing quality pieces that delight Permel customers.
Even in his spare time Dan likes to keep his mind active. When not hanging out with his family, he enjoys disc golf, computer gaming and even builds his own computers.
Robin FotheringhamPermel Signage & Engraving
Robin graduated with a diploma in biotechnology and after a rough ride of acquisitions and uncertainty, he was relieved to leave it all behind and join Permel in 2003. And yes, Robin and Craig are brothers! Robin is Craig’s right hand man and steps in to cover when and as needed to make sure the operation runs smoothly and efficiently.
Robin’s skills extend into pretty much every department, but mostly he works on the large format printer, vinyl department, and on the laser and rotary machines. He finds it really satisfying to drive around town and notice work Permel has done, and he appreciates that when he makes customers happy, they will come back for more and tell others too. Robin is a good listener and a natural problem solver. He has a creative flair and the technological know-how to make design concepts a reality.
In his spare time Robin loves the outdoors and looks forward to spending time at his family’s vacation home near Williams Lake, fishing, camping and hiking. On weekends he loves to cook, play disc-golf, exercise and hang out with his girlfriend and friends.
Kim MillerPermel Signage & Engraving
Kim was born in Hamilton, Ontario and started her career working in a sign shop, which she loved. So after she had raised her three children, and she found herself in BC, she was immediately interested when she learned Permel had an opening for a laser engraver. The small company environment attracted her–everyone was friendly and welcoming–and she quickly became the laser-engraving expert.
Kim is organized, confident, detail oriented and very patient. She finds her job interesting, and she enjoys the variety. But most of all she loves that she can work hard and have fun at work–and if you’ve met Kim you’ll know she has an amazing infectious laugh. Sometimes the work can be repetitive but the supportive atmosphere at Permel and the positive feedback from her customers keep her loving her job.
Kim is an avid scrap-booker and two weekends a month she dedicates to working on family photos and developing photo archives for her three children. It’s social time too; at she shares this hobby with her many scrap-booker friends.
